Katy Perry denies sexual assault allegations by Ruby Rose
Published in News & Features
“Orange is the New Black” alum Ruby Rose has accused Katy Perry of sexual assault, which the pop star’s team staunchly denies and has decried as “dangerous reckless lies.”
The 40-year-old model alleged on Threads Sunday: “Katy Perry sexual assaulted me at spice market nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a s--t what she thinks.”
Rose then added that the alleged assault occurred “in my early 20s. ... It has taken almost 2 decades to say this publicly.”
“Though I am so grateful to have made it long enough to find my voice, it just shows how much of an impact trauma and sexual assault takes. Thank you for seeing me,” concluded Rose.
In a statement shared Monday with the New York Daily News, a representative for the “Firework” singer, 41, denied Rose’s accusation.
“The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous reckless lies,” said the rep. “Ms. Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have been repeatedly been denied by those named.”
Representatives for Rose did not immediately respond to the Daily News’ request for comment.
Rose eventually wrote on Threads that she would be going to the police “to see if any of my experiences can be investigated.”
Though the “John Wick: Chapter 2” actress said she believed most such incidents were “past their statute of limitations,” she felt that was “all the more reason to try. I have a long list.” Rose then updated Threads to said “I did it.”
Rose in May 2020 left The CW’s “Batwoman.” She’s since leveled allegations of a hostile work environment and misconduct, which Warner Bros. has dubbed “revisionist history.”
The studio says it declined to bring Rose back for a sophomore season “based on multiple complaints about workplace behavior that were extensively reviewed and handled privately out of respect for all concerned.”
Perry, meanwhile, has faced multiple allegations of sexual misconduct since at least 2018, including one instance of exposing a man’s penis without his consent.
“I think we live in a world where anyone can say anything,” said Perry in 2020.
She said she didn’t want to be “true and false-ing my whole life” and “distracting from the real movement” of #MeToo.
